Kate's Story

Kate Schlichter is a Los Angeles-based hairstylist, educator, salon owner, and the founder of TSOL, a haircare line. She founded Lost Hills Salon in Silver Lake in 2015, which Vogue famously dubbed “The Ultimate Secret Hair Hideaway.” Lost Hills has since become a destination for artists, musicians, actors, and creatives across Los Angeles.

Kate’s career began in London in the late ’90s at Vidal Sassoon, where she built the technical foundation that continues to inform her work today. In the decades since, she has earned a reputation for advanced razor cutting and modern shape creation. Known for transformative shags, sharp short cuts, lived-in layers, customized texture, and face-framing detail, Kate’s work blends precision scissor and razor techniques with an instinct for movement and individuality. Drawing on punk subculture, travel, fashion, architecture, art, Kate has developed a cutting philosophy that balances technical precision with creative freedom.

From 2003 to 2019, Kate was an educator and stylist at Bumble and bumble in New York City, teaching in the apprentice program, contributing to in-house education, and serving as a House of Bumble educator. During that time, she also traveled nationally with Bumble and bumble LIVE, teaching advanced cutting techniques to stylists across the country. Today, she teaches nationally through platforms such as Pony Education, alongside her own independent classes and mentorship programs, encouraging stylists to trust their instincts, embrace imperfection, and find their own creative voice.
